The removal of wolves from Yellowstone National Park, which began in the early 20th century, was driven by efforts to protect livestock and increase populations of other game animals. By the mid-1920s, extensive hunting, trapping, and poisoning had eradicated the wolf population in the park. This absence of wolves led to significant ecological imbalances, notably an overpopulation of elk, which in turn caused overgrazing and severe degradation of vegetation and habitat quality. The removal of wolves had far-reaching effects on the park's ecosystem, disrupting the natural predator-prey dynamics and affecting various other species and environmental processes.
Mankind is responsible for just about all the imbalances in our environment.
